AT HEDKANDI, HAIR IS JUST THE

BEGINNING

Since ’99, we’ve built more than salons—we’ve created a community. Rooted in craft, fuelled by connection, and designed with intention, each of our spaces feels less like an appointment and more like an experience.

Everything is curated: from the art on the walls to the playlist in the background. A latte, an herbal tea or something a little stronger—it’s all part of the vibe. Every detail is designed to make you feel something.

Our stylists are true artists: intuitive, technical, always evolving. We tailor every service to you—not just your hair, but your energy. Because how you feel when you leave matters more than anything else.

This is Hedkandi. Elevated care. Exceptional experience. Big impact.

Q&A with Founder Jereme Bokitch: The Hedkandi Story

What’s your earliest memory of hair and style?
At 14, I was highlighting my mom and sister’s hair with one of those old-school caps. We couldn’t afford to go to salons, so we became our own DIY crew. I always thought I was pretty stylish—even if it was just teenage confidence.

Who influenced you most early on?
My first mentor, Fima Preeves in Saskatoon. Just two months into hair school, I was standing behind his chair, shampooing guests, and watching every move. I did it for almost a year, unpaid, just to learn.

Did you always know you’d open your own salon?
Pretty quickly, yes. I saw a lot of toxic cultures in Calgary salons—weak leadership, no real training, and a sense that success was only allowed up to a point. I knew I had to build something different.

What inspired the creation of Hedkandi?
I wanted to bring together artists who loved hair, music, and community. A culture of sharing and collaboration was missing in the industry, and that’s what we set out to create.

What was your vision for guests from the beginning?
We wanted an experience that felt different—music you’d never hear on the radio, DJs in the salon, art on the walls, events happening all the time. More than beautiful hair, it was about making people feel part of something special.

How do you describe Hedkandi’s vibe?
The fun side of luxury. Hair should be exciting, not uptight. We want guests to feel better, more confident, and part of a team that genuinely loves what they do.

What makes Hedkandi different from other luxury salons?
Our team. They’re passionate, energetic, and supported by one of the best education programs out there. We can take new grads and help them become thriving stylists in just a few years. And we always put team well-being first.

What keeps you going through challenges?
Belief. In myself, in the team, and in what we’re building. For 26 years, that belief—and the responsibility of supporting our people has pushed us to adapt and keep moving forward.

When people think of Hedkandi, what do you hope comes to mind?
Innovation, creativity, and a brand that always puts community first.

What’s next for Hedkandi?
I want to keep raising the bar, showing young stylists what’s possible, and proving this industry can offer independence, success, and a life you love.
